Russell Irish Setters

Preserving Dual Purpose Irish Setters

6 Weeks and first bird

The pups had their first bird exposure the other day as a group.  Today I took each one into the yard individually and showed them one of the Homing pigeons in a harness (saved me catching 14 birds!)  Despite the newness of being alone in the yard, the longer time in the cold and snow, and the bird flapping, the pups showed great boldness, sustained interest, and almost all of them exhibited some tendency to sight point or stalk - and PLAY bow at the bird!  LOL!  Two or three were sleepy and wanted to go back to the warm, so I will ensure that they are well awake next time I work with them. Jeannette was a trooper and stayed out in the cold photographing them for us all.

Opie got to work the last bird I used and Jeannette got a couple great photos of him.

The female pups had their first vaccines, and the males get done along with everybody's exams and microchips, on the fourth.  The first has them at Trax Weimaraners for their puppy evals.  First pups will start going to new homes after the fourth.  Exciting time!
